Geyer’s work ranges across multiple media, incorporating text, photography, painting, sculpture, video and performance. It explores the complex politics of time, in the context of specific social and political situations, cultural institutions and historical events. From her early investigations into urban environments, cultural landscapes and notions of citizenship to more recent research into women’s contributions to modernism, Geyer’s work continuously seeks to create spaces of critical, collective reflection on the construction of histories and ideas that are otherwise marginalised or obscured. In Dance Future (2018) Geyer uses a technique of layering wax pigment on plastisol on acrylic, creating a line drawing and text. Dance Future is a phrase that repeats and transmutes in Geyer’s works and has been recently used in the title of her 2019 monograph, ‘Dance in a Future with All Present.’ The work depicts layered figures dancing, creating the impression of movement with a text that subtly reads ‘don’t stand for a PRESENT without PAST but DANCE a FUTURE with ALL present.’
