Hew Locke Performing in "Up Hill Down Hall – An indoor Carnival" at Tate Modern

Hales Gallery is happy to announce Hew Locke's participation in Up Hill Down Hall- An indoor Carnival at the Tate Modern Turbine Hall. Up Hill Down Hall brings Carnival into the indoor street that is the Turbine Hall and translates the costumed parade into a contemporary art procession. Hew Locke will be debuting his first ever live performance event, called Give and Take  as a part of this event.

Give and Take is an exploration of the changing spatial politics of the Notting Hill neighbourhood. The work both critiques the gentrification of the area and embraces the new cultural influences on this historically pan-Caribbean festival. Give and Take is realised in collaboration with the Batala Samba-Reggae band.
