The Irish Museum of Modern Art acquires works by Andrea Geyer

Hales is delighted to announce that three monumental works by Andrea Geyer have been acquired by the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.

Manifest is a video originally commissioned by SFMOMA in 2017 and stems from research into Grace McCann Morley, the founding director of the museum, who championed museums as integral parts of civil society and civic life. The work features clips of two performers making declarations of wants, needs, and demands posed to the museum. Geyer's recent expansion of this work, Manifest (Banners) debuted at the Carnegie Museum of Art in 2023, and was adapted for the Gropius Bau, Berlin in 2024.

Revolt, They Said is a towering wall-based installation, which maps a network of 850 women who were instrumental in shaping the modern American cultural landscape. It stems from a drawing started by the artist while in residence with the MOMA in 2012, which is ongoing today. The diagram is accompanied by a newsprint including all 850 women's biographies.

Collective Weave (Ireland), is an expansive floor-to-ceiling installation of white linen featuring iridescent silver patterns. Commissioned by IMMA in 2017, the patterns are derived from drawings within Irish queer magazines, posters, and flyers from 1970 to the early 1990s.

The three works raise questions around identity, community, representation, and visibility within museums, as well as how social and cultural change has been and can be realized.
