Ebony G. Patterson | 2023 David C. Driskell Prize

Hales congratulates Ebony G. Patterson on winning the 2023 David C. Driskell Prize in African American Art and Art History. Awarded annually by the High Museum of Art since 2005, the prize demonstrates the High's ongoing dedication to furthering artistic innovation and promoting research of African American artists and scholars.

Patterson's expansive practice addresses visibility and invisibility, through explorations of class, race, gender, youth culture, pageantry and acts of violence in the context of "postcolonial" spaces. With the strong sensibility of a painter, Patterson works across multiple media - including tapestry, photography, video, sculpture, drawing and installation - united by her consistent visual language and intention.

The 18th annual Driskell Gala will take place on 28 April 2023 at the High Museum of Art where the artist will receive her award.
