Bowling & Gouk discuss Abstraction in Painting | Hampstead School Of Art

November 14, 2017

Hales Gallery is delighted to announce that Frank Bowling will be taking part in a discussion with artist Alan Gouk at Hampstead School Of Art on Friday 24 November at 6.30pm. 'Bowling & Gouk discuss Abstraction in Painting' will include the development of post-war abstraction and the range of experimental gestures that characterised the post-60s era.

Alan Gouk is widely admired and respected as a pre-eminent abstract painter, and he has consistently produced paintings of exceptional quality which explore the architecture of art through colour and form. His work is in many collections, including the Tate.

Frank Bowling’s recent works continue to explore the nature and possibilities of abstract painting, the diverse range of principles and processes explored across his career now converging and coalescing in dynamic new configurations of colour and form. Bowling continues to orchestrate the emotive potential of colours to communicate a visual experience of uniquely sensuous immediacy. Haus der Kunst in Munich is presenting Frank Bowling: Mappa Mundi, a comprehensive survey of large-scale paintings and Bowling’s work has recently been include in the Soul of the Nationexhibition at the Tate Modern.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event. Two of the greatest abstract painters of our generation together in conversation for the first time ever. It will be revealing, stimulating and engaging.”

- Estelle Lovatt, HSoA tutor and art critic for BBC radio and TV and SKY news.
