TREVOR APPLESON
Trevor Appleson lives and works in London. Appleson creates simple portable photo booths with black cloth in the open air of his Native South Africa, Israel and more recently Mexico. By drastically reducing perspectival space, the trademark black curtain adds to the intense frontality and creates closeness with the viewer. His photographs establish a neutral space, allowing the sunlight to wash over the objects or subjects. In many cases, Appleson photographs people who are otherwise not seen; workers, gangsters, drug users, the impoverished. 2006 saw the publication of Appleson's first monograph by Booth-Clibbon publishers and had his second solo show with Hales Gallery in November 2007.
