ADAM ROSS
Adam Ross (1962, Pasadena CA) lives and works in Los Angeles. Ross makes paintings which suggest architectural forms and futuristic imagery. His works are influenced by his native L.A especially its infamous 70s smog and skylines.
His works hint at the breakdown of the modernists' utopia of 'the city', and are influenced by recent media images of war and devastation. Ross' futuristic landscapes have become apocalyptic.
Generally, Ross' influences are European in origin. The surrealists, especially Yves Tanguy have had a powerful effect on the early vision that led Ross' paintings in to this new territory and also prompted his enquiry into the landscapes of the British war artists Graham Sutherland and Paul Nash.
Ross' works are widely collected and he is featured in large number of public collections including The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Museum, The Museum of San Diego and the Orange County Museum of Contemporary Art.
